On December 15th 1908, a preliminary meeting was held for the

purpose of considering the advisability of petitioning the Grand

Master for the establishment of a Masonic Lodge at Cambridge, MN.

The following Master Masons were present: Robert B. Hixson,

Henry N. Bentz , Andrew Noren, Carl L. Wellman, and Carl G.

Benson. All of the Brothers endorsed the proposition heartily and

Enthusiastically and an organization was made for the purpose of handling the preliminary

arrangements. A motion was made and passed that a joint note for $150.00 be signed by the Master

Masons residing in Cambridge. The name “Temple” was voted on to be the name of this new

Lodge, however in a communication from the Grand Master another Lodge already carried the

name Temple in it’s name, so the name “Helios” was adopted.  A letter was drafted to the Grand

Lodge for dispensation of the new Lodge and the first meeting of Helios Lodge U.D. was held on

February 24, 1909. On January 15, 1910 a motion was made and passed to petition the Grand

Lodge for a charter. The officers for the newly chartered Helios Lodge 273 were installed by the

Grand Lodge on February 26, 1910.

The first Lodge room was on the second floor of  the Goldberg and Anderson Building. On

December 31, 1930 a fire burned out the entire block in which the Lodge was located. As this was

a wood frame building, fire spread rapidly and nothing was saved from the Lodge Hall. They then

leased space in the Woodman Hall for a period of 5 years. The Methodist Church property was

purchased on April 4, 1934 and Helios Lodge is still there today.

The Lodge is involved in the community, supporting programs such as Kid’s ID, Relay for Life

and National Night Out..
